How to Add Double Strength Retinol Serum to Your Routine
Retinol is one of the most studied ingredients for smoother-looking skin and the look of fine lines. It works best when you introduce it slowly. Here is how to use our Double Strength Retinol Serum safely.
Step-by-Step (Evenings Only)
- Cleanse and let your skin dry completely.
- Apply a pea-sized amount to your whole face, avoiding the eyes, nostrils and lips.
- Wait a minute, then follow with a plain moisturizer.
- Every morning, wear broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher. Retinol makes skin more sensitive to the sun.
Start Slowly
- Use it 2 to 3 nights a week for the first few weeks, then increase if your skin is comfortable.
- Some dryness, flaking or mild redness is common at first. If it stings or stays red, use it less often or stop.
- Don't use it on the same night as exfoliating acids (like glycolic acid or a pore exfoliant) or on broken or irritated skin.
- Patch-test on a small area first if you have sensitive skin.
- If you are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding, don't use retinol without talking to your doctor.
What to Expect
Most people notice smoother texture after several weeks of regular use; changes in fine lines and tone usually take a few months. Consistency matters more than using a lot.
